Minnesota House To Vote On GOP Funding Plan For Road Fixes
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota House was going on record about how to pour billions more into road and bridge construction.
A Republican-crafted proposal to direct $7 billion to projects over the next decade is slated for a vote Tuesday. As drafted, it would redirect existing taxes on auto parts, vehicle leases and car rentals to construction and borrow billions more.
The plan differs from a Democratic approach pursued by Gov. Mark Dayton and Senate leaders. They support hiking gasoline taxes as the main source for a long-term finance package.
The transportation debate goes deeper than where the money would come from. There's also a divide about whether to expand mass transit and how extensively.
