Vikings Add Mini-Suites, Club Purple to New Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Vikings are now taking appointments from the general public to buy season tickets in the new stadium, while also unveiling new features.

With about 15 months remaining before its official opening, stadium construction is more than halfway finished, which is right on schedule. The team said ticket sales, meanwhile, are ahead of schedule.

Jason Gonella, vice president of the firm overseeing ticket sales, said current season ticket holders had first dibs, but others will be able to start buying on April 30.

"There are still good seats available," he said. "I think we'll have a lot of folks who are pleasantly surprised."

Steve LaCroix, the Vikings' Chief Marketing Officer, said the most expensive sections -- the all-inclusive clubs -- sold out first. Private suites are 70 percent sold.

"We realized there was a demand for something unique, especially related to a smaller suite," LaCroix said.

The team is now spending $1.2 million to convert three corner loge lounges into mini-suites designed for eight to 10 people, about half the capacity of a traditional suite.

"It could be families, it could be small businesses," LaCroix said. "It could be even a larger business that maybe doesn't have the demand on game day like a normal suite would."

The team is also unveiling its latest club section. Club Purple will have a mix of couch seating and traditional seating, with food and drink included in the price. Members will also have access to an outdoor deck with views of the Minneapolis skyline.

About 12,000 seats in the new stadium will not require fans to pay for a seat license in addition to the ticket price.
