Sharing And Caring Hands Getting $5 Million Expansion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis homeless shelter is being torn down, so a new place can be built.

Sharing and Caring Hands founder Mary Jo Copeland actually jumped into the driver's seat of the bulldozer on Thursday morning.

Crews are tearing down the 100-year-old building at 425 North 7th Street. In its place will be a new $5 million expansion for children and teens.

"I'm so excited," Copeland said. "This isn't like the Vikings though. This is helping the poor."

Copeland says the eight new housing units being built will help 100 families who need temporary housing.

People will live there for a few months while they're looking for something permanent.
