This Week's Weather Making For High Fire Danger
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – State officials say the week's forecast of dry and warm weather means that Minnesota will be at risk of high fire danger.
The Minnesota Incident Command System says that even if rain showers come periodically in the next few days, that'll only lessen the threat of fire for a short time. As long as it's sunny with a slight breeze, dead grasses can dry out in about an hour's time and become fuel for wildfires.
Green-up is just beginning in southern Minnesota, officials say. Without significant rainfall, green-up statewide will likely be delayed.
The week's forecast is expected to be sunny, with highs in the 70s. Rain showers aren't expected for much of the state until the weekend.
Officials are urging the public to be careful with equipment that can cause sparks.
