Gophers Basketball Adds Ahmad Gilbert To Signing Class

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino announced Tuesday the addition of Ahmad Gilbert to the 2015 recruiting class.

Gilbert, a 6 foot, 6 inch forward out of Pennsylvania, signed Tuesday to play for the Gophers this year. He was named to the All-Southeastern Pennsylvania first team by the Philadelphia Enquirer after helping lead his high school to its third straight state title.

Gilbert averaged 17.6 points, 11 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game this past season.

"We are very excited about the addition of Ahmad Gilbert. We set out to add some size on the perimeter and Ahmad brings that. He has the ability to guard multiple positions as well as shoot the three," Pitino said.

Gilbert is the sixth member of the Gophers 2015 recruiting class. He's joining incoming freshman Jarvis Johnson, Kevin Dorsey, Dupree McBrayer and Jonathan Nwankwo as well as Illinois State transfer Reggie Lynch.
