Police: Man Sought After Threatening Cab Driver With Knife In Jordan

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities in Jordan are looking for a suspect after a man allegedly threatened a cab driver and forced a lock down at Jordan High School on Thursday, police said.

Authorities were called at about 3:14 p.m. to the McDonald's restaurant located at 260 Triangle Lane in Jordan to meet with a taxi driver about an unpaid fair.

The driver told police he transported a man in his early 20s from another city to Jordan and dropped him off at the McDonald's. When the man was asked to pay for his fair, the suspect refused and started to walk away. The driver grabbed the suspect while trying to call police from his cell phone.

Police said the suspect then grabbed and smashed the driver's phone, then pulled a small red-handled pocket knife from his pocket and threated the taxi driver. The driver let the suspect go, and the suspect fled the scene.

Authorities said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. He was wearing a red tank top, blue jeans, yellow sun glasses and was carrying a backpack. He also reportedly has the sides and back of his head shaved.

Jordan Police received information that a man matching that description had been seen running into Jordan High School. Officers responded immediately and put the school on lock down, but the suspect was not located at the school. The Jordan Police Department was assisted in the search for the suspect by the Belle Plaine Police Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Jordan Police said there is not believed to be any general threat to the public at this time, but anyone with information about the incident should call (952) 492-2009.
