Sheriff: 3 Dead In Sawyer County (Wis.) Shooting, House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Three people died Saturday after a male reportedly shot his mother's husband and then set their northwestern Wisconsin home on fire, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded at about 11 a.m. to a residence at 16742 N Knutson Lake Road in the town of Edgewater after a woman reported that her son shot her husband and set their home on fire.

Officers with the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office responded with assistance from the Washburn County Sheriff's Office, Birchwood Police, Birchwood Fire and Ambulance and the Sawyer County Special Response Team.

Authorities lost contact with the woman and repeated attempts to get back into contact with her failed. When authorities arrived, they found a man dead outside the residence, which was fully engulfed in flames.

The man found dead was identified as 41-year-old Eric Werachowski. The Birchwood Fire Department put the fire out and in the process, found two more dead bodies on the property. Their identities have not been released.

The incident is under investigation by the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Division of Criminal Investigations.
