MNfusion: Q. Cumbers Celebrates 25 Years

A lot can change in the course of 25 years. But one Minnesota couple is celebrating something that didn't change.

Local restaurateurs Mickey and Sheila McCabe are throwing a 25th anniversary celebration in honor of their restaurant Q. Cumbers.

The McCabes opened the Edina restaurant in June of 1990.

"Originally there was a group of investors who had an idea for the concept and we were hired to build it," Mickey said.

The two launched the restaurant and later a second location in Roseville. Due to a few factors, the Roseville location faltered and the investors began to turn their interests to steakhouses. As the steakhouse business grew for the investors, attention turned away from Q. Cumbers.

So in 1995 the McCabes asked to buy it. And the business grew.

"We added a hot bar and its been changed over the years," Mickey said. "We try to have the healthiest options and freshest food possible at the right price."

Twenty-five years later, it's still an Edina staple.

To celebrate the occasion, the McCabes decided to do it up big.

"My wife is a big one for celebrating. She always says, 'We can't just let these times go by because this is our life. If you just treat it like another day then it is another day, but it isn't It's a milestone,'" McCabe said.

On Friday, June 12 they will be holding a anniversary concert with local band Dermot opening up for "The Voice's" Kat Perkins. A picnic dinner will be provided and guests are encouraged to bring blankets and eat on the lawn by the Centennial Lakes amphitheater. VIP tickets include reserved seating by the stage and dessert after the concert.

But while celebrating their accomplishments, the McCabes also wanted to give back.

For the celebration, all proceeds will go to the PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. They also paired with Nutritional Weight and Wellness to offer informational seminars for their customers. Throughout the course of May and June classes on diets, food trends and losing weight are held at the restaurant and include a meal afterwards.

Then, on Sunday, June 7 Q. Cumber is partnering with their neighbor, CorePower Yoga, to offer a yoga and brunch event. The class will take place at 9 a.m. at the CorePower location in Edina, which is located right below the restaurant, followed by a brunch upstairs. A similar class and lunch will be offered through TONE2DAY at 9:30 a.m. on June 20.

"We wanted to have a venue where we could get up in front of people and say thank you," Mickey said.

And where they could make sure that this day, and this year, isn't like every other one

The 25th anniversary celebration will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12 at the Centennial Lakes Park. General seating tickets cost $30, VIP tickets cost $50. Tickets can be purchased online, or at Q. Cumbers up through June 12.
