WCCO Saturday Morning Links & Recap (June 13)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Don't hit that snooze alarm on Saturday. Natalie Nyhus and Mike Augustyniak have a full weekend's worth of happenings to share with you.

If you missed them earlier, make sure to check out Natalie's story profiling your choice for Minnesota's best little league field: Mann Field. And then head over to the latest DeRusha Eats, which didn't actually cover anything edible at all for possibly the first time. Instead, he looked at Deneen Pottery, who are behind the pieces you can see all over Twin Cities restaurants.

This weekend is also the fifth annual Northern Spark. Since 2011, tens of thousands have gathered for one night in June to see what happens when artists take over the city.

Another big event to consider -- last November more than 1,000 people came out and ate 3,300 donuts. That made it possible to donate 9,000 meals to those in need. The Twin Cities Donut Crawl is from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at St. Paul's Mears Park.

On another sweet note, it's almost time for Izzy's Ice Cream to reveal the finalists in their annual People's Flavor Award competition. The People's Flavor Awards are on Sunday, June 21. Natalie and Mike had a chance to see the kitchen where some of the 24 finalists were being tested.

Not quite as sweet, but certainly mouth-watering: The Butcher & the Boar's Old Fashioned. That's what Mike's learning how to make in this week's edition of Mike's Mix.

This Saturday is the Somali Independence Day in Minneapolis, which promotes diversity and intercultural appreciation. There will be live music from local artists, animals, food and art gallery exhibits.

Art on the Lake in Excelsior is back for the 35th year. Local musicians will take the stage both Saturday and Sunday afternoon for "Music by the Bay." It's not just a chance for you to meet local artist but taste local cuisine as well.

Also, don't sleep on the Blue Ox Music Festival, which is wrapping up Saturday in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and boasts some of the finest acoustic music you can hear.
