Girl Accused Of Stabbing Classmate Due In Court

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — The attorney for one of the two Wisconsin girls charged with trying to kill a classmate to please a fictitious horror character will try to convince a judge that the child's case belongs in juvenile court.

A two-day hearing in Waukesha County begins Wednesday for the 13-year-old girl. A hearing for the other 13-year-old girl charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide took place last month.

The two are accused of stabbing classmate Payton Leutner 19 times to gain favor with Slender Man, a character they believed could kill them or their families. Leutner survived the May 2014 attack at a Waukesha park. All three girls were 12 at the time.

Judge Michael Bohren plans to announce his decision on whether to move the two girls to juvenile court in August.
