Gov. Walker Says Haley Asked That He Not Talk About Confederate Flag

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he didn't initially offer his opinion on whether the Confederate flag should be taken down from the Capitol grounds in South Carolina because Gov. Nikki Haley asked him to hold off speaking about it.

Walker commented about the flag Wednesday after signing a pair of bills expanding gun rights in Wisconsin.

Walker over the weekend said whether the flag should remain flying at the Charleston Statehouse was a state issue and should not be debated until there was time to mourn the nine people killed in a church there.

On Monday, after Haley called for removing the flag, Walker said on Twitter that he supported the move.

Walker said Wednesday that Haley asked him not to comment on it until she addressed the issue.
