'A Prairie Home Companion' Celebrates 41st Anniversary At Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Garrison Keillor is celebrating the 41st anniversary his popular public radio show "A Prairie Home Companion," Saturday.

It was on July 4, 1974 that Keillor held the first live broadcast of the show at Macalester College in St. Paul. On Saturday, he was back there again, hosting a live show from the Great Lawn. The show features a full slate of guest singers and musicians, including the Macalester College Pipe Band.

Keillor recently told the Pioneer Press that he'll be retiring soon, with plans to gradually hand the reigns over to popular musician and critically-acclaimed mandolinist Chris Thile.
