Court Rules In Favor Of MN Bear Researcher's Live Video Feeds

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – This winter, live video feeds will once again broadcast from inside bear dens in Minnesota.

On Monday, an appeals court ruled that the founder of the North American Bear Center and Wildlife Research Institute near Ely, Lynn Rogers, does not need a permit to place cameras in bear dens.

Two years ago Rogers' live-streaming was shut down when the DNR suspended his research and refused to renew his permit to collar bears.

The agency said the bears had become too comfortable around people.

The court ruled Rogers does need a permit to collar the bears, which the DNR has refused to issue.

Rogers said he has not decided yet whether he'll reapply for a permit to collar.
