Mpls. City Council Works To Curb Post Bar Close Crime

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The city of Minneapolis is looking for ways to curb the violence in the downtown area after bar close.

The Star Tribune reported a proposal at City Hall would let businesses get a special license so they could keep offering food and entertainment after 2 a.m.

The hope is that would keep customers inside after alcohol stops being served, rather than a mass exodus into the streets.  This is the time when police have had trouble with crime in recent years.

Few businesses have expressed interest in the idea.

A public meeting on the topic will be held later this month.
