DNR Aims For Weekend With Zero Invasive Species Violations

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is holding its annual "Think Zero" weekend to raise awareness of aquatic invasive species.

The campaign aims to reduce the spread of invasive species via a weekend with zero violations.

"More people than ever before know and follow Minnesota's laws to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species," DNR Enforcement Operations Manager Todd Kanieski said. "In addition to expanded efforts by conservation officers and the use of AIS-sniffing K9s, we have a record number of watercraft inspectors across the state in 2015."

The Minnesota DNR said that the number of violations in Minnesota has been on the decline, from 23 percent in 2013 to 11.6 percent in 2015.
