Roseville Firefighters Get Hands-On Training In Controlled House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Roseville firefighters spent Saturday morning putting out a fire, but it was just what they expected.

The blaze was a drill -- a live fire training session. The fire department got permission to burn a home so they could get hands on experience in a real, but controlled, fire situation. It's an opportunity to work on strengthening their techniques and skills.

"We have a very thick operations plan that covers up from the beginning of our set up, all the way through our final burn-down," Battalion Chief David Brosnahan said. "We have teams that are in place, with the right hose lines in the right place, with the right resources to handle this kind of burn-down."

The house was one of the oldest buildings in Roseville. BHrosnahan said it's challenging, because the home is more structurally sound.
