Kylie's Kids: Teen Has Big Dreams Despite Spina Bifada

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This week's Kylie's Kid is a busy 13-year-old.

"Horseback riding, swimming, track, bowling," Abbey said.

This athlete is also an animal lover, hoping to be a veterinarian one day.

"I just feel like animals don't really get a voice and i want to help with that," Abbey said.

And like many teenagers, Abbey is a huge Taylor Swift fan.

"I like all her new music," she said.

It's one of her favorite things to listen to when she's in the hospital.

"It helps me get through the day and keep my mind off if I have a lot of back pain," Abbey said.

Abbey has Spina Bifada. It's a disability that impacts the brain and the ability to walk.

So far she's had 20 surgeries, which means she's in the hospital a lot.

"This is kind of my second home," Abbey said.

But Taylor Swift's music provides comfort far beyond the hospital room.

"I've been bullied a lot," Abbey said. "I have to do a lot of things differently and they make me feel bad about that."

Taylor's Swift is more than just her favorite singer. She's her inspiration every single day to shake off those bullies.

"That's another thing that I liked about her," Abbey said. "That she stood up to everyone."

"I want to be treated like a normal person," she said. "I always stood out and they would always be mean or be extra nice to me just because of it, I just want to be treated as normal as I can."

Abbey is attending Swift's concert when she comes to Minneapolis. It's her dream to one day meet her idol.
