From Pretzel To Apple Pi: Strange Brews At The Minnesota State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- The craft beer scene is booming in Minnesota, so it only makes sense that it's represented at the State Fair.

And the brewmasters didn't stick with the typical lagers or shandies. They turned to popular fair foods for inspiration.

When Chicago Dogs wanted to step into the craft beer scene, they wanted to be different. Their Two-Headed Goose Sourdough Pretzel beer is based on the crunchy snack.

To finish the beverage, they even garnish it with a small, soft pretzel.

For those wanting something sweeter, Ball Park Cafe now has hard cider. The Cherry Rhubarb gives visitors a taste of Sweetland Orchard in Webster.

The sweet taste of cherry balances the tart undertones of rhubarb and apple.

Another new specialty brew can be found near Lulu's Public House. Their Frozen Bloody Beer is a twist on the traditional chaser.

The base is Grain Belt Premium and then a bloody mary is frozen and added on top.

Once you've finished the breakfast beer, it's on to dessert.

At Blue Barn, there's always a line for their Caramel Apple Pi beer. The cider hops and caramel remind fairgoers of that favorite fall treat.

Five days into the fair and the beer is quickly becoming a crowd favorite. Blue Barn says it had to cut down on selling large-sized beers to make sure supplies don't run out before Labor Day.

The Frozen Bloody Beer and the Caramel Apple Pi Beer can be found in the West End Market. The pretzel beer and rhubarb cider are behind the Giant Yellow Slide.
