MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's a big day for students across the state with many starting a new school year. More than 837,000 students head back to class this week.

For the second year, nearly every Kindergarten student will attend all-day school free of charge.

Gov. Mark Dayton, Lt. Gov. Tina Smith and Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius are holding a welcome back ceremony Tuesday morning at Brimhall Elementary in Roseville.

Classes in Minneapolis have been going for nearly two weeks already.
