90-Year-Old Charged With 2nd Degree Murder In Son's Death

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 90-year-old man has been charged with murder for the shooting death of his son.

Kenneth Bowser called 911 from his home in Maplewood Saturday night saying he had just killed his son. Police met him at his front door. Then they handcuffed him and had him sit in his wheelchair.

Police found 65-year-old Larry Bowser dead in an upstairs bedroom. Kenneth Bowser told police he and his son had been arguing about TV. He said he wanted to fire the gun to scare his son, but the bullet killed him.

Many neighbors say the son told them his father's dementia had been getting worse, but the Maplewood Police Chief said Bowser had no difficulty recalling what had happened.

Kenneth Bowser has no criminal history.

The Ramsey County Attorney's office announced the charges Monday afternoon.

"This shooting death is a terrible tragedy both for the family and the community as a whole," Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said in a statement. "Despite the difficult circumstances, we will seek to achieve justice as we pursue a criminal charge of Murder in the Second Degree."
