ND Regulators To Review Xcel Energy's Solar Projects

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Minneapolis-based power company is again asking North Dakota regulators to endorse plans for some solar projects in Minnesota.

Xcel Energy Inc. has about 87,000 customers in North Dakota. The company is proposing the solar projects to comply with Minnesota's mandate that investor-owned utilities get some of their power from the sun.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission on Wednesday is slated to review Xcel's solar projects that would create about 100 megawatts of power.

North Dakota's backing would allow Xcel to pass on some costs to North Dakota customers. But North Dakota regulators have shot down such plans in the past, saying solar projects don't provide the best option for low-cost electricity for North Dakota customers.
