Identities Released In Apple Valley Fatal Stabbing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Apple Valley police have identified the man and woman involved in Monday's fatal stabbing incident.

On Monday at 3:49 a.m., police responded to the backyard of a residence the 13500 block of Everest Avenue. There, they found a man armed with a knife and a woman with multiple knife wounds.

After disarming the man, police noticed a self-inflicted blade wound. The man died on the scene.

The injured woman was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment. She is expected to make a full recovery.

On Thursday, police identified the deceased man as 26-year-old Alexander Mooney and the victim as 25-year-old Michelle Armstrong – both from Burnsville.

Apple Valley Police Captain Nick Francis says the incident was a "violent ending to a domestic assault."

"The Apple Valley Police Department treats domestic violence with the utmost importance," he added. "We recommend that anyone in a romantic relationship be aware of the potential for increased violence and the dangers you could face in that relationship. Concerns or suspicions should be reported to the police or a trusted relative or friend. There are many resources to assist with domestic violence specifically 360 Communities, who we work closely with in Dakota County."
