Sheriff: 1 Dead In St. Louis County ATV Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person died early Sunday morning in an ATV crash in northern Minnesota, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to a report of an ATV accident at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the 5100 block of N. Comstock Lake Rd. When officers arrived, they learned a passer-by came upon an overturned ATV laying in the ditch with a man pinned under it.

First responders at the scene attempted to revive 32-year-old Daniel John Freeman, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say it appears Freeman was attempting to navigate a curve in the road when the ATV left the roadway and crashed into a ditch. The ATV rolled, ejecting Freeman, and came to rest on top of him.

Authorities say speed and alcohol appear to have been contributing factors to the crash, which is under investigation.
