Crash With Dump Truck Kills Man, 73, In St. Croix County (Wis.)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 73-year-old man from New Richmond, Wis., was killed Wednesday morning after being involved in a crash with a dump truck in western Wisconsin, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded at about 10:22 a.m. to the crash on County Highway D at 130th Avenue in the town of Glenwood. When officers arrived, a dump truck being driven by a 30-year-old man from Menomonie, Wis., was heading southbound on County Highway D. The 73-year-old man was heading westbound on 130th Avenue in a 200 Dodge Dakota and either failed to stop or yield at a stop sign.

Authorities say as the Dodge Dakota tried to cross Highway D, it was broadsided on the passenger side by the dump truck. The car spun around and came to rest in the east ditch, while the dump truck came to rest in the west ditch.

The 73-year-old man, who authorities say was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said it's the 10th traffic fatality of the year in Wisconsin. The name of the victim has not been released. Authorities said the crash remains under investigation.
