Suspect In 2002 Murder Arrested, Deported To Mexico

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man wanted in Mexico for murder was arrested in St. Paul Tuesday and handed over to Mexican authorities.

United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement say 30-year-old Jose Alvarado is accused of fatally shooting Saul Chavez Rodriguez in Coahuila, Mexico in 2002 after he backed out of a $15 bet to race Alvarado on foot.

Alvarado entered the U.S. in 2005, but was ordered to be removed in 2007, according to ICE. He was arrested last year in Wisconsin for a DWI.

ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations says Alvarado is now in custody in Mexico.
