Firefighters Hold Chili Cook-Off For Family Who Lost 3 Kids In Blaze

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It was one week ago three children were killed in a Minneapolis house fire. Firefighters came together Sunday to help the family who lost their loved ones.

Sunday was the annual chili cook-off for the Minneapolis Fire Department. There were 11 stations from around the city that competed for the top spot at Stanley's Northeast Bar Room.

The funds raised were originally going to go to various charities, but after a fire took the lives of the three children last week, the fire department decided to raise money to help the families with the cost for the funeral and memorial.

According to investigators, Latorious, Latora and Latorianna died after the fire most likely started in the kitchen from an oven that had been turned on to heat the home.

The Minneapolis Fire Department raised about $1,600 Sunday. Station 21 came in first place. The funeral will be held this Saturday at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale.

There is a memorial fund set up for the family -- the Stewart Family Memorial Fund -- at Wells Fargo.
