Mystic Lake Unveils Hotel Tower & Convention Center Plans

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Mystic Lake Casino has some big plans for its 25th birthday.

On Wednesday, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community unveiled its new expansion plans, detailing a new nine-story hotel tower and state-of-the-art convention center to its current location in Prior Lake.

The new 180-room tower, attached to the casino's hotel, will feature the 70,000-square-foot convention center that's expected to contain two large ballrooms and several smaller breakout meeting rooms.

"We are always working to identify new opportunities that will enhance Mystic Lake Casino Hotel as a full-service resort. Adding this first-class hotel tower and convention space will meet the growing demand and help set the tone for our 25th anniversary in 2017," said Edward Stevenson, president/CEO of the SMSC Gaming Enterprise, which operates Mystic Lake and Little Six Casino.

The hotel would become the third largest in the state just behind the Hilton and Hyatt in Minneapolis.

The project is expected to create up to 400 total construction jobs and about 100 permanent jobs in the region.

Work will begin next April, with a grand opening sometime by the end of 2017. Existing hotel rooms will also be remodeled, which will be complete by the end of the 2015.
