Sheriff: 10-Year-Old Boy Reports Being Abducted In Anoka, Escaping

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 10-year-old boy reported being abducted in Anoka Monday afternoon.

On Monday at 5:24 p.m., Anoka police received a report of an abduction of a boy from the area of the 600 block of Brisbin Street. Authorities say the report came after the boy reportedly called his parents on his cell phone after he escaped the abduction.

According to the sheriff's office, the boy reported walking on Brisbin Street when an unknown person grabbed him in a bear hug and placed him into a black or dark-colored cargo van. There is no description of the suspect.

The child told authorities that he was placed in the van and later pushed open a rear door and escaped in the parking lot of Chipotle at Riverdale Cross in Coon Rapids. He said he fled to the Buffalo Wild Wings next door and called his mother.

The sheriff's office says the boy had been home from school and reportedly left the house without permission from his parents, so they are working on validating portions of the information provided by the child and his family.
