Operation Warm: Metro Firefighters Hand Out Winter Jackets To Kids

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Firefighters in Twin Cities are working to make sure no kids go without a warm jacket this winter.

On Wednesday, firefighters handed out 425 brand new winter coats to the kids at Riverview Elementary School in St. Paul. They'll give away about 1,200 over the next few weeks.

A few weeks ago, volunteers came by to help the kids pick out which bright colors they wanted on their jacket. Local businesses helped pay for the coats.

"We're able to get them from a company in Alabama, so they're solid, they're warm. It's the same technology used in Air Force bomber jackets," Colin Oglesbee, of the St. Paul Fire Department, said.

This is the second year St. Paul fire fighters have partnered with Operation Warm.

Last week, fire fighters delivered jackets to students in Minneapolis.
