Stolen Granlund Statue Replaced At Minn. Landscape Arboretum

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum has replaced a beloved statue that was stolen earlier this year.

The arboretum says its new version of "South Wind II" by the late, internationally recognized Minnesota sculptor Paul Granlund was installed in the shrub rose garden Nov. 19. It's the first casting of the bronze work. The version stolen last April and never recovered was the 10th out of 10 castings.

The arboretum bought the replacement from the Granlund family.

The 42-inch high statue depicts a female figure facing into the wind who, according to Granlund, "basks in the warm breezes of summer." It has long been a popular feature of the shrub rose garden. While it's along a road closed to vehicles for the season, the sculpture may be viewed by walkers and hikers.
