3rd Wisconsin Deer Hunting Fatality Reported By DNR

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A third person has died in a firearm-related incident during Wisconsin's 9-day gun deer season.

State Department of Natural Resources Warden Jon King says the family of a 50-year-old hunter found him at the base of a Marathon County tree stand on Sunday evening. The hunter had been shot in the chest. King says investigators believe the hunter shot himself while climbing in or out of the stand.

Two other hunters have died in firearm-related incidents since the season began on Nov. 21. The deaths mark the first firearm-related fatalities during the 9-day season since 2012.

King says five other people have been injured by gunfire but survived their wounds.

The season closed Sunday.
