Dustin Diamond's Jail Sentence Starts In January

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/CBS News) -- The actor most famous for playing Screech Powers on the TV show "Saved By The Bell" will start serving a four-month jail sentence with work release in January.

Dustin Diamond was convicted last summer of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, which are both misdemeanors. This was following an altercation at a Wisconsin bar.

Diamond said that he accidentally stabbed a man during the fight, and that he had taken out his pocketknife to ward off people and protect his girlfriend.

He was cleared of a felony charge.

Diamond appeared in Ozaukee County court Wednesday and withdrew his appeal of a disorderly conduct conviction.

The sentence starts Jan. 15.
