Minnetonka Basketball Coach Suspended Pending Investigation
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnetonka boys basketball head coach Chris Carr has been placed on administrative leave while the school investigates an alleged physical altercation with a male high school student.
A source told WCCO the incident occurred Tuesday at school after Carr's high school-aged daughter told him she had been involved in a fight with the boy.
Carr then confronted the student who is not on the basketball team at school later Tuesday, the source said. Carr allegedly pushed him against a wall and put his hands around his neck.
When the teen attempted to get away, Carr pushed him again, the source said. The entire altercation lasted less than 30 seconds.
Carr was placed on leave Wednesday. Now the Minnetonka school district is weighing Carr's fate, with a decision expected "sometime in January," the source said. Assistant coach Ryan Martin is leading the team in the meantime.
When contacted by WCCO, Carr said he wished he could discuss what happened, but could not due to district rules.
In a statement on Friday, Minnetonka High School confirmed that it has placed Carr on administrative leave pending an unspecified investigation, but said it could not comment further.
"There is no timeline available for the pending investigation," the statement said. "Of course, data privacy laws prohibit the District from commenting on the nature of the investigation until its completion."
Carr played three seasons for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the late 1990s, and was the coach of the Eden Prairie girls basketball team for five years before taking over at Minnetonka this season.
