Kylie's Kids: Meet Elijah

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This week's Kylie's Kid, Elijah, can play basketball anywhere, anytime.

"We have a hoop at home," Audrey Smith, Elijah's grandma, said. "Or a laundry basket, anything he can make out of a basket, he will do and shoot with it."

Elijah brightens any room with bubbly personality -- not to mention his bright red shoes and sweet light up wheels.

"It's just amazing," Audrey said. "It's encouraging to see that even with being in the wheel chair that his personality is so bubbly."

Elijah was just 3 months old when he started having seizures.

"We were here at Children's," said Audrey. "We were here for about ten days."

Then about a year later came a diagnosis.

"He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and that's why he's in a wheelchair," said Audrey. "He doesn't let that limit him."

At only 7 years old, Elijah already loves to eat out at restaurants. And he has some pretty refined tastes: shrimp is his favorite food and his all-time favorite is Benihanas.

"We have pretend food at home and I actually had to find him the chef hat so he can play Benihana at home," said Audrey. "He's chopping food with his chef hat on and feeding anybody who will eat."

Elijah is a huge Timberwolves fan and Gopher Women's Basketball fan, where his cousin plays on the team.
