MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man is in police custody Thursday after the severe beating of a 21-month-old girl, who remains in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Minneapolis Police say 21-year-old Ticortier Raheem Collins, the girl's father, turned himself into authorities on Wednesday, and was arrested on probable cause of 1st degree assault.

The 21-month-old child, Rae'Ana Hall, has severe brain damage, broken ribs and a broken pelvic bone. Her mother says the toddler was hurt while in Collins' care. He says the toddler was hurt while playing with his other daughter, but doctors say the injuries appear to be intentional.

In October, Collins was convicted of a felony drug charge for selling marijuana. He was sentenced to three years of probation.

Collins was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on Thursday.
