MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person died after passing out inside a semi-tanker truck Thursday evening.

According to the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office, just before 5 p.m. officers responded to a call of two unresponsive men in the 5000 block of 250th Avenue.

Upon arrival, police learned that the tank of the truck had been filled with distiller syrup and David Syring, 34, and Jamie Hyatt, 34, were cleaning it out.

While they were cleaning, something fell inside the tank and plugged the hole. One of the men, went inside the tank to unplug the hole and eventually passed out.

Police said after a short time, the second man went into the tank to help and also eventually collapsed.

After arriving, fire crews were able to cut an opening in the side of the tank and get Hyatt and Syring. One of the men was unresponsive; the other was able to move a little by himself. Both were taken to Granite Falls Hospital.

Syring was treated at the hospital and released Friday morning. Hyatt died from his injuries.
