Buffalo Lunch Ladies Almost Hit Powerball Jackpot

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of 16 lunch ladies from Buffalo High School narrowly missed Saturday's $950 million jackpot.

They matched four numbers plus the Powerball, missing just one number – winning $50,000 in the process.

The women say they were inspired to play after a group of lunch ladies from Holdingford won a $95-million jackpot in 2003.

"Everybody was screaming and yelling and crying and everybody was so excited. And the students walking by, they were so excited and everyone's congratulating us," lottery winner Lynnette Neumann said. "We have just been having a ball with this."

The group says they will keep playing the lottery and would love to take home Wednesday's jackpot.

A run on lottery tickets is sweetening the Powerball jackpot. It climbed to $1.5 billion Tuesday.

It could go even higher before Wednesday night's drawing.
