Vandal's Work On New Duluth Transit Center Could Cost $50K

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police have arrested an 18-year-old man they say is responsible for an estimated $50,000 in vandalism to Duluth's new transit center.

The $30 million center was set to open in February, according to reports, and the Duluth Transit Authority's general manager Dennis Jensen called the incident "a setback."

Photos shared by the DTA showed bathroom fixtures smashed, computers damaged and drywall splintered by a sledgehammer. Electrical outlets even appeared to have been ripped from the wall.

The damage was discovered after a call about a leaking water pipe.

Jenson called the destruction "senseless and malicious."
