Meeker Co. Deputy Accused Of Stealing Drugs & Toys From County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota sheriff's deputy is in jail after authorities say he stole drugs and toys from children in need.

Travis Sebring, 33, was arrested at his department headquarters in Meeker County Tuesday. Investigators say he'd been stealing drugs from the county's prescription drop box.

"It's tough for the department," Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze said. "Nobody is tougher on cops that do wrong than cops."

At Sebring's home in Grove City, authorities then found toys they believe were taken during a holiday toy drive, where toy donations were collected at the court house located next to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office.

"It's very disappointing," Sheriff Cruze said.

Sheriff Cruze says he believes the thefts are an isolated incident. He doesn't want it to reflect the work of other officers.

"We have a lot of good officers here," he said. "But because of what he did we do take the fall out from that."

Sebring will make his first appearance in Meeker County Court Thursday. It's the same courthouse where the toys were allegedly taken from the toy drive.

Sheriff Cruze declined to comment on Sebring's employment status.
