Timberwolves Will Have 3 Players In Rising Stars Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The NBA announced Wednesday that three players from the Minnesota Timberwolves will be a part of the All-Star weekend, playing in the Rising Stars Challenge.

Second-year players Zach LaVine and Andrew Wiggins and rookie Karl-Anthony Towns were selected for the game. LaVine and Towns will play for the U.S. Team, while Wiggins will play for the World Team.

Wiggins was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 2015. He also played in last year's Rising Stars Challenge, winning MVP honors after scoring 22 points in the game. He's currently scoring 20.8 points per game in his second season with the Timberwolves.

Minnesota chose Towns with the No. 1 overall pick in last year's NBA Draft, and he's lived up to expectations so far. He's leading all rookies in rebounding with 9.7 per game and is second in scoring with more than 16 points per game. He already has 11 games of at least 20 points and 10 rebounds this season.

LaVine was taken No. 13 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft after just one season at UCLA. He's averaging 12 points per game this year and won the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest last season. He also scored 22 points in the Rising Stars Challenge last year.

This year's game is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
