'Get In The Car Or I'll Kill You': St. Paul Police Say Girl Ran From Abduction Attempt

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul police are investigating the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl Tuesday evening.

According to police, the incident occurred after the girl exited her school bus around 6 p.m. on the intersection of West Wheelock Parkway and Albemarle Street.

The girl reported to police that a man in green sedan asked her to get into his car. When she ignored him and kept walking, he said, "Get in the car or I'll kill you."

The girl then ran to a nearby home, which she was not familiar with, and asked for help. The homeowner sheltered the girl and called police.

When police arrived, the girl was visibly upset.

Police say no similar incidents have been reported. Sgt. Mike Emster says this is a good reminder for parents to speak with children about dealing with strangers and identifying safe places to go in case of a dangerous encounter.

"Go to their bus stop, look around. Is there any friendly places they can go to? Businesses, or maybe friends or acquaintances that they could run to if they needed to?" Sgt. Emster said. "And also talk to them about if a stranger does approach them, what to do. Don't go near the car, don't go in the car, don't accept anything from everybody."

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black man, 25 to 30 years old with scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a dark hoodie with the hood up at the time.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Paul Police at 651-266-5698.
