Twin Cities Property Owners, Businesses Could Cash In On 2018 Super Bowl

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In one week, WCCO will be broadcasting the biggest event in the U.S.

And two years from now, that event will unfold live in downtown Minneapolis. It's supposed to bring in $400 million to the Twin Cities area.

U.S. Bank Stadium will be officially open in time for the Vikings to play their 2016 home games there. And as WCCO found out Sunday, financial opportunities for you to cash in on the big game will be opening up too.

The season will change eight times before that Super Bowl Sunday comes. But already, the game is changing the landscape.  Agent Luke Kleckner showed us a top floor Mill City condo with a lot to look at.

"Right now, we're in a condo that rents for $7,000 a month, it's quite possible something like this could rent for $7,000 a night for the Super Bowl," Kleckner said.

After all in San Francisco this week, it's $3,000 a night for some properties homeowners are renting out. And a four-bedroom home is going for $13,000 a night.  Kleckner says several clients have bought in this building just for the big game rental opportunities. He and his wife are considering renting their own downtown unit.

"The option of a huge payday is appealing," he said.

But there will be other ways to get game-time pay, according to Maureen Bausch, the CEO of the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee.

"We have actual things needed like caterers and event planners and who has a stanchion business." Bausch said.

Bausch and 49 others will be in San Francisco this week, taking away ideas to make Minneapolis' big game the best.  They're meeting with ride share executives at Lyft, who along with Uber, will need lots of drivers.

"As well as the taxis and the limo services and the bus companies, we're not sure there are enough buses and limos in the area," Bausch said.

Whether loaning someone a ride - or a porch, 60 minutes of football is bringing thousands of opportunities.

The local super bowl committee has a program that is working to get local small businesses connected with the NFL for the big game.
