Bloomington City Worker Dies After Being Hit By SUV While Removing Snow

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- City officials said Monday that a Bloomington Public Works employee has died after being involved in a crash last Thursday while doing snow removal.

Authorities say the two-car crash happened last Thursday on the 400 block of American Boulevard East. An SUV rear-ended a City of Bloomington Public Works truck that was stationary. There were two people inside the city truck at the time of the crash and they were performing snow removal in the area.

City officials identified the victim who died from injuries as Tyler Lenort. He was an equipment operator with the City of Bloomington. The other person in the truck, identified as Daryl Bittmann, is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the SUV is also still hospitalized. Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said it is believed alcohol and excessive speed by the driver of the SUV were factors contributing to the crash.

Bloomington City Manager Jamie Verbrugge said Lenort had been with the city for 15 years. Bittmann has worked with the city for more than 28 years.
