Goin' To The (Frozen) Lake: Frank & Chris Visit Fergus Falls (Day 2)

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Minnesota is great for a quick getaway, even in winter. That's why we're Goin' to the (Frozen) Lake this February! In our first trip of the new year, Frank Vascellaro and Chris Shaffer are in Fergus Falls!

---------

Fergus Falls City Bakery

The guys kicked off Friday by visiting one of the best bakeries in the state. City Bakery has been in Fergus Falls for over 90 years. A husband and wife named Lance and Lisa have owned it for the last seven or eight years. They've really kept its original charm, but they are stepping it up in the donut department. Anything is possible when it comes to the donut at City Bakery. Frank and Chris found that out first hand when they dropped off a dozen at their hotel Friday morning!

Fergus Falls Relay Race

Like many cities and towns in Minnesota, Fergus Falls embraces winter. It's not just a time to hibernate. This week they're celebrating Frostbite Festival. Businesses in town are preparing for Friday night's Corporate Cup. It's a relay race in locations all over Fergus Falls. And as Frank and Chris can attest -- it is not easy!

---------

Prairie Wetlands Learning Center

One of the coolest things to see in this part of the state is the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center. Fergus Falls is an area where wetlands meet tallgrass prairie in kind of a transition to the up-north woods of cabin country. This type of habitat is great for birds and is not found in many other places in America. And kids from Fergus Falls Public Schools actually use the center as a classroom every day. They are fourth and fifth graders who spend time learning outside, even in winter. It's an excellent program that really sets Fergus Falls' schools apart.

Making Ribs In Fergus Fall

Frank and Chris went to the American Legion in Fergus Falls Friday afternoon to help them prepare the evening's feast – ribs!
