Local Music Tap: 4 Shows To See For The Week(end)

From a Wine, Women & Song event to masterpieces being performed by the Rochester Symphony, here are the four shows to check out this weekend.

Friday: Mark Mallman & The Malismatics @ Turf Club – St. Paul

There's a big ol' whopper of a show in St. Paul to kick off the weekend.

Minneapolis' own collar-loving, brain-wave music connoisseur and pianist Mark Mallman headlines the show, along with local post-punk rockers, The Melismatics.

Not bad. Catsax and Lunch Duchess also join the bill!

Doors open for the 21-plus show at 8 p.m. and music begins at 9 p.m.

Saturday: "Wine, Women & Song" @ Parkway Theater – Mpls.

As the name suggests, it's pretty great combination.

Local rocker Tina Schlieske (of Tina and the B-Sides) and London-born, Minnesota-based Katy Vernon are sharing the stage in what's being described as an "intoxicating showcase" at the Parkway.

Sarah Morris will be opening the night, too.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $18. It's a 21-plus show.

Saturday: Chastity Brown (Duo) @ Icehouse – Mpls

For those of you who don't want to wait until night to hear great live music, Americana soul songstress Chastity Brown is heading to the Icehouse late Saturday morning for a duo show.

Best thing … there's no cover!

Saturday & Sunday: Rochester Symphony's Revolutions In Music

And for those who want to hear a beautiful symphony, why we got you covered too.

Rochester Symphony's "Revolutions In Music" is a show dedicated to composers who "truly changed music", including Beethoven and Liszt.

It all happens Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
