Witnesses: Driver In School Bus Crash Fell Asleep At The Wheel
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – St. Paul police say the driver of the school bus that careened down Minnehaha Avenue on Monday, sideswiping several cars and sending three people to the hospital, is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
Witnesses told authorities that 31-year-old Mohamud Wasuge dozed off near the intersection of Minnehaha Avenue and Birmingham Street.
The bus hit several cars as it ran out-of-control down westbound Minnehaha Avenue Monday morning before coming to a stop just inches away from Dayton Bluff's Post Office.
Twenty schoolchildren were on board. The bus was headed to Westside Summit Charter School.
Two children – ages 8 and 10 – were taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure, police said.
An adult was also hospitalized, with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
