Chelsea Clinton Hits Minnesota For Hillary Ahead Of Super Tuesday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hillary Clinton's campaign is riding high on Sunday. The presidential candidate walked away with a landslide victory over Bernie Sanders in South Carolina on Saturday.
And on Sunday, one of her biggest allies was on the ground in Minnesota. With Super Tuesday hours away, Chelsea Clinton is focused on Minnesota with appearances in Rochester, Duluth and the Twin Cities.
She told WCCO Minnesota played a big role in her childhood. Two politicians, one daughter and countless campaigns, the latest of which brought her to a Minnetonka home.
This was by no means her first encounter with Minnesota.
"Minnesota's always had a really special place in my heart because I loved going to camp in Bemidji," Chelsea said.
This campfire discussion was of a different kind.
"This is the first presidential election that I will be voting in as a mom," Chelsea said.
She also talked about her current pregnancy - setting a tone for the speech - of women's and children's issues.
"She set the expectations that every embassy representing our country around the world would know what was happening to women and girls in terms of rights, opportunities, safety, health, participation," she said.
She also talked of how her mother has been working for women's pay equality for decades, and her work in healthcare.
"And she spent three years building a bipartisan coalition to create the children's health insurance program, which covers more than eight million low-income kids, including tens of thousands here in Minnesota," Chelsea said.
She was also escorted by Governor Dayton to St. Paul, where her mother's supporters were working away.
She's hitting four Minnesota cities, but will be leaving with one regret.
"I just wish I could have gone to Bemidji so if anyone's watching this in Bemidji, I'm sad I'm not there but I'm so happy to be back in Minnesota," she said.
Hillary Clinton's Democratic opponent, Bernie Sanders, is also focusing on Minnesota. He will be at the Minneapolis Convention Center for a rally at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Marco Rubio announced Sunday he'll be in Minnesota on Super Tuesday. He'll be holding a rally at the Courtyards of Andover Events Center at 12:30 that afternoon.
Senator Ted Cruz will stay in his home state of Texas. And on Sunday night, Donald Trump announced an endorsement from longtime Republican U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Trump will spend Super Tuesday between Ohio and Kentucky.
