Wis. Company Recalls Alfalfa Sprouts After E. Coli Outbreak

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A western Wisconsin company is voluntarily recalling alfalfa and alfalfa onion sprouts following an E. coli outbreak that sickened at least nine people.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the sprouts were produced and packaged by the company Jack and the Green Sprouts.

Two people were hospitalized because after being exposed to the bacteria, and another seven were reported to have been sickened by it.

The FDA said the cases affected people from 18 to 84 years of age. Four of the cases were reported in the Twin Cities.

The Minnesota Department of Health earlier said they didn't believe other products from the company, which is based in River Falls, were contaminated.

The FDA said the source of the contamination is still not known.
