$18M In Upgrades Approved For Area Around New MLS Stadium

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than $18 million will go toward improving the area surrounding a Major League Soccer stadium being built in St. Paul.

The city council approved it last night after a public meeting.

While the $150 million stadium will be privately funded, the public money will go toward things like new sidewalks, plaza areas and parking.

The stadium in St. Paul's Midway area will sit on vacant land overlooking I-94.

Construction is expected to start on June 1 if the state legislature approves a tax exemption for the site.
