Black Lives Matter St. Paul Cancels High School Protest
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Black Lives Matter St. Paul has canceled its planned protest of Como Park Senior High after a leader spoke with the school's superintendent.
In a statement on Monday, school Superintendent Valeria Silva said the meeting was "productive and positive."
Last week, Como Park Senior High teacher Theodore Olson posted that he was frustrated by the lack of help dealing with students who he said were setting up fights, selling drugs and cyberbullying.
Soon after, Black Lives Matter St. Paul took to Facebook and threatened to "shut down" the school if Olson wasn't fired.
Silva said the group is no longer planning to protest at the school. Black Lives Matter St. Paul did not respond to WCCO's request for comment.
The superintendent's statement did not directly mention the teacher or his Facebook posts. He is still a teacher at the school.
